Start preparing for Christmas
Shushmas, that’s what my son calls Christmas before the start of December. 😊 I guess one might get too excited (yes, I am one of them) and start preparing for Christmas quite a long time in advance, especially with all the marketing strategies out there that have a great impact on our decision making and action taking.
Now that we have reached December and its Festive Season, I am allowed to call it Christmas, yay!
I have always been in love with winter, snow and playfulness, misty mornings, and longer indoor evenings. The end of year customs and traditions, the idea of a warm fireplace with its wonderful smell of freshly burned wood which has always been something that touched my heart, and most of all I have always loved getting ready for Christmas. It is a special and beautiful ritual that we all seem to enjoy and spend our time and effort on.
One important place where we can start preparing for Christmas would be our home and space, as this is where we are most likely going to spend a lot of time with our friends and family. A good practice would be planning ahead and looking at the bigger picture rather than just thinking of the actual event.
How to prepare your home for Christmas
We all have our usual routine that is quite general for most people, things like planning for our Christmas dinner, getting in touch with friends and family, making arrangements for food and drinks, or planning a day out, but one important aspect we mustn’t forget is our home.
One might be very tempted to buy new things like kitchenware or home decorations, a new outfit, or a pair of shoes, however, we sometimes forget to make space for them which can lead to a cluttered home. We forget to take one out if we bring one in 😊 and we might end up with two things the same for example two winter coats and only wear our favourite one. This will mean that things will take double the space to be store in the cupboard, but also double the space in our mind.
Here are a few tips on how to prepare your home for the Festive Season:
- find items around the house that you have not used for a long time
- find items that have not served you a purpose and are only taking up the space
- look at each item and decide whether you could do without it
- find the items that you are thinking to replace over Christmas
- make a pile of the things that you do not need any longer (or you are replacing with new) and donate them to a local charity
Planning ahead helps with changes that come our way. Having space available in our home before Christmas makes a huge difference and it prevents us from getting overwhelmed with clutter.
We all experience letting go of the old and making space for the new at some point in our lives. I believe the secret is to not get attached and let the flow, well, flow! 😊
